The Supreme Judicial Council has agreed to allocate judges and members of the prosecution to oversee the constitutional referendum on 15 December, council member Judge Ahmed Abdel-Rahman has said.
Judges will officially oversee the referendum even though many of them are currently on strike, Abdel-Rahman told the Al-Ahram Arabic website.
Earlier on Tuesday, the Supreme Committee for Supervising the Referendum was formed under the leadership of Judge Samir Abou El-Maati, the head of Cairo’s Appeal Court.
Egyptian expatriates will vote on the national charter on 8-11 December.
Meanwhile, the Administrative Prosecution Authority issued a statement on Thursday announcing its agreement to delegate its judges for the supervision process.
