A number of political groups and parties have condemned what they describe as ongoing calls made by the Muslim Brotherhood targeting demonstrations and sit-ins being held by protesters opposing President Mohamed Morsi and the draft constitution.
"The Muslim Brotherhood, with its ongoing calls, has been transformed from being a political power to a terrorising and suppressive power, using its force against the Egyptian people and their revolutionary forces," the statement said.
The statement holds the president and the Muslim Brotherhood completely responsible for any violence that erupts around the presidential palace, as the Brotherhood had organised demonstrations in the area where the opposition were holding a sit-in.
"We hold on to our right to peaceful protest anywhere and we will defend our peaceful sit-in against any assault," said the statement.
Clashes erupted at the presidential palace on Wednesday afternoon, when Morsi supporters confronted protesters conducting a sit-in.
Groups releasing the statement include the Socialist Popular Alliance, the Egyptian Popular Current, the Social Democratic Party, the Free Egyptians Party, the Nasserist Karama Party, the Free Egypt Party, the Egyptian Socialist Party, the Revolutionary Socialists, the National Association for Change, the Free Egyptian Movement, the Kefaya movement, the Justice and Freedom Youth, the Lotus movement, the April 6 Democratic Front, the National Front for Justice and Democracy, the Free Front for Democratic Change, the Maspero Youth Union, the New Woman Association, and the Nadim Center for the Rehabilitation of Torture Victims, as well as others.
