Rain adds to Cairo congestion woes

Cold snap brings more rain to Cairo causing increased levels of traffic congestion, temperature drops to 12 degrees centigrade

Drivers in Cairo, notorious for its traffic congestion, suffered additional delays on Wednesday caused by rain showers overnight.

As winter showed its ugly face a few days ago, rain has been causing more traffic delays, accidents and disturbances to daily life.

Tunnels and bridges in Cairo have witnessed a number of minor accidents, according to the Al-Ahram Arabic website.

The Cairo-Alexandria road witnessed an accident on Wednesday morning when a truck hit a bus, leaving two dead and 15 injured.

Meanwhile, state-owned news agency MENA has reported that meteorological authorities expect rain showers to continue on Wednesday in several parts of the country and there is a risk of flood in the Sinai Peninsula.

In Cairo, the weather dropped to 12 degrees on Wednesday from 17 degrees on Tuesday.
