Egypt’s Jewish community elected Magda Haroun as its new leader on Monday.

Carmen Weinstein, the former leader, died on Saturday of natural causes aged 84.

Her first task, Haroun told DPA news agency, will be to take care of Weinstein’s funeral, scheduled for Thursday.

All Egyptians are welcome to attend, Haroun said.

There are less than 100 Egyptian Jews still living in the country.
