The Rebel campaign announced in a press release Thursday the launch of its 'Rebel week,' which will be held in several Egyptian governorates.

The events will start next Friday in Port Said and are scheduled to include six other governorates. The Rebel campaign will organise marches in these governorates to spread awareness of their cause.

The 'Rebel week' announcement follows the violence that erupted Wednesday night between Morsi supporters and Rebel campaigners. The clashes began in Alexandria, one of the governorates included in the 'Rebel week,' as Rebel campaigners were collecting signatures from pedestrians.  Six Rebel members, five local residents, and six Muslim Brotherhood members were injured.

Both sides swapped blame for the clashes.

Rebel campaign organisers have stressed their commitment to peaceful marches and sit-ins. In a televised press conference late May, the campaign announced that they had collected more than seven million signatures.  Organisers hope to get more signatures from Upper Egypt's governorates.

The Rebel campaign was initiated last May.  It is supported by the National Salvation Front (NSF), Egypt's most comprehensive opposition umbrella group, in addition to  several Islamists groups, who disapprove of the Muslim Brotherhood's rule.

The campaign hopes to collect 15 million signatures in a vote of no confidence in President Morsi.  This would exceed the 13.2 million votes with which Morsi won Egypt's June 2012 presidential election, the first since Mubarak's ouster in 2011.  Rebel campaigners will march to the presidential palace on 30 June to demand the president's resignation.
