Egypt’s military denied arresting people for political reasons, particularly Islamists, as it is not tasked with this matter, the military spokesman Ahmed Ali stated via Facebook on Friday.

Ali added that Egypt’s public prosecution is the judicial body, which is authorised to deal with these issues.

According to the statement, Egypt’s military pledges to protect peaceful demonstrators since freedom of expression is ensured to all citizens.

The spokesperson called on the media and citizens to report news with accuracy and caution and not to spread rumours about the Egyptian Armed Forces.
