Bassem El-Zaraka, vice chairman of the Nour Party, announced Saturday evening that the party refuses that Mohamed ElBaradei be appointed prime minister.

"Egypt is passing by a critical moment now and needs someone who is wise," said the leading Salafist figure and former adviser to ousted president Mohamed Morsi on Al-Hayat TV, adding that proposing ElBaradei means there is misunderstanding around what is happening in Egypt.

"I suggest that the Nour Party withdraw from the political scene to object this decision," said El-Zaraka, without giving hints if this would mean Nour joining the Salafist Call — Egypt's largest Salafist umbrella group — in an effective political boycott following Morsi's ouster.

"ElBaradei has a vision of a secular state that does not go along with the Nour Party [vision] ... especially his views regarding Islamic Sharia," said El-Zaraka on Al-Hayat TV.

"It is unacceptable to put all the PM's powers in the hands of a party's leader that is against Egypt's identity," the Salafist figure said.

News reports revealed that the Nour Party has already suggested as names former PM Kamel El-Ganzoury, former PM Abdel-Aziz Hegazy and American-Egyptian economist Mohamed El-Erian.
