At least three people were killed and nine injured after unknown assailants opened fire at a wedding ceremony held at a church in Cairo's suburb of Al-Warraq late Sunday.

Al-Ahram’s Arabic news portal quoted a spokesman of the Egyptian Ministry of Interior as saying that a 13-year-old girl, a woman and a man had died after succumbing to their wounds. The woman who was shot was the groom's mother.

Shortly after the attack, the church was heavily surrounded by security forces. Tens of residents have also gathered at the incident's location.

An eyewitness told Al-Ahram that a man had randomly shot 15 bullets at the wedding before fleeing the scene.
