The 'presidential palaces' trial of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak and his two sons will begin on 19 February, a court announced on Thursday.

Mubarak and sons Gamal and Alaa are accused of embezzling LE125 million ($17.9 million) allocated for the renovation of presidential palaces.

The defendants also face trials for the killing of protesters during the January 2011 uprising. Gamal and Alaa face a separate corruption case.

Hosni Mubarak was released from custody in August after exceeding the 2-year legally mandated detention time pending trial, but Gamal and Alaa remain in jail.

Mubarak settled another case against him by reimbursing gifts he had received from state-run institutions.

Cairo Criminal Court is scheduled to hold a session in Hosni Mubarak's murder case on Saturday.
