Egyptians die in Saudi Arabia hotel fire: Ambassador

Twelve people died in the city of Medina on Saturday due to a fire at their hotel, Sky News Arabia reported on its website.

The network had earlier reported that 15 Egyptians had been killed in the fire.

The Egyptian ambassador in Saudi Arabia Afifi Abdel-Wahab told MBC Egypt TV channel that 15 people died and 47 were injured, "mostly Egyptians."

Saudi authorities have issued a statement confirming the death of 12 people in the fire.
 
Some 130 were injured, according to the same statement, which said that there were 700 people of different nationalities at the hotel, in the country to perform an Islamic pilgrimage.
