Former US ambassador to Egypt Anne Patterson requested the Egyptian army to delay the removal of Mohamed Morsi from office "for a day or two", presidential contender Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi said in his first ever TV interview on Monday night.
However, the former army chief said Patterson’s request was not heeded.
El-Sisi said that the US saw Morsi's removal from office as a coup, as according to US law.
"I tell them that we look to [the US] with American eyes, so look at us with Egyptian eyes," El-Sisi said.
El-Sisi said he tells US officials and the west, "Don't use your culture, your regimes and development in [evaluating us]."
El-Sisi appeared in a two-part interview with co-hosts Ibrahim Eissa and Lamis El-Hadidi on Sunday and Monday evening.
