Unidentified assailants opened fire at a police car on Thursday, injuring an police officer and a police conscript, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.
The two policemen were driving to Hawamdia suburb in Giza, known to be a stronghold of supporters of the ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.
The two were transferred to a nearby hospital, while the attackers fled.
Attacks against security personnel and installations have spiked after Morsi's ouster last July.
An Al-Qaeda-inspired group, Ansar Beit El-Maqdis, has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks in the restive Sinai Peninsula, Nile Delta cities and the capital.
Smaller attacks against low-profile police ranks have also emerged in recent months.
Interim authorities blame supporters of Morsi and their allies for the wave of violence.
