The Egyptian armed forces have appointed Colonel Mohamed Samir as their new official spokesperson.
He replaces Colonel Ahmed Mohamed Ali.
The announcement was made via the spokesperson's official Facebook page.
Since graduating in 1988 as an infantry officer, Samir has held several positions including UN military observer and Egypt's military attaché in the UAE.
A military source told Aswat Masriya that Ali had joined the Egyptian presidency as a media adviser.
Ali, who was the first official spokesperson for the Egyptian armed forces, was appointed in summer 2012.
