The defendants are also accused of planning to overthrow Egypt's government and inciting riots and violence

Six alleged members of the Muslim Brotherhood were detained for 15 days pending an order by Cairo prosecutors to investigate charges of their joining illegal protests, inciting protests, riots and violence as well as planning to overthrow the regime.

Brotherhood members and supporters of ousted president Mohamed Morsi have been rounded up frequently by police since the violent dispersal of a pro-Morsi sit-in in August 2013 and the designation of the group as terrorist organisation last December.

Thousands are currently facing similar charges while the Brotherhood's top leadership are being tried on charges including terrorism, inciting violence and espionage. The Brotherhood's Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie has received a death sentence for violence-linked charges.
