Dozens of Egyptian and Arab journalists gathered on Tuesday in front of the Journalists syndicate to denounce the Israeli targeting of journalists and denounce Israeili Defence Force's violent offensive in Gaza.

The protests were organized by the Arab Journalists' Coalition.

General Secretary of the coalition Hatem Zakaria told Ahram Online that Egypt has been overlooking difficult relations with Hamas following the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi last July since the offensive began.

Zakaria said that what's happening in Gaza is a genocide that should be stopped along with the destruction of Gaza's infrastructure.

Meanwhile, General Secretary of the general syndicate for Palestinian journalists Youseef El-Ostaz told Ahram Online that a coalition of journalists from around the Arab world is planning to send a delegation to visit Gaza soon. El-Ostaz said that Israel doesn't distinguish between civilians and members of Hamas, adding that since the start of war in Gaza, over 12 journalists and photojournalists have been killed.

According to Gaza officials, 1,834 Palestinians have been killed and more than a quarter of its 1.8 million residents have been displaced thus far. Israel has confirmed that 64 soldiers have died in combat since fighting began on 8 July. Palestinian shelling has killed three civilians in Israel.
