One woman was killed and two people wounded in a shootout between gunmen and security forces in Egypt's restive Sinai Peninsula late Wednesday, Aswat Masriya reported.
The firefight took place when assailants shot at a security checkpoint in the western part of the North Sinai town of Rafah, leaving one woman killed and injuring two others, army sources said.
It was not immediately clear if the wounded were civilians or security personnel.
Sinai has been hit by an upsurge in militant attacks, mainly targeting soldiers and police, since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last summer.
Militants have also hit Cairo and the Nile Delta with bombings and shootings.
On Tuesday, at least five policemen and four alleged smugglers were killed during a shootout with gunmen on a coastal highway near a northern Egyptian town.
