Mubarak-era prime minister Atef Obeid died on Friday morning at the age of 82.

Obeid served as prime minister between 1999-2004.

He oversaw a string of privatisation for public sector corporations during his five-year tenure.

In the aftermath of the 2011 revolution, he was briefly detained and continued to face criminal charges of illegally acquiring state-owned land.
