Prosecutors in Upper Egypt have ordered an investigation into nine policemen over the sexual harassment of a woman.

They will be detained for 15 days pending investigations into the incident in Minya.

Two are accused of sexually harassing the woman, while seven others are accused of preventing her from reporting the incident.

This is not the first accusation of sexual harassment or assault by police in Egypt.

In September, a policeman was referred to court for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old mentally ill detainee.

A United Nations study in 2013 found that over 99 percent of Egyptian women and girls have been subjected to verbal or physical sexual harassment of some kind.

Egypt's authorities recently passed a new anti-sexual harassment law and sentenced several assailants to lengthy jail terms.

The law punishes sexual harassment with a prison sentence, a fine or both.
