A large fire erupted Thursday morning at a power plant in the north Cairo district of Shubra Khaima.

The electricity ministry said the fire began at 9:30am. According to news reports, 16 fire engines headed to the plant, aided by fire-fighting aircraft from the army, all of which managed to put out the fire.

Electricity in the district will not be affected, as the fire occurred in only one steam unit at the plant and didn't spread, a source in the electricity ministry told state news agency MENA, adding that the cause of the fire is still unknown.
