Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir will arrive in Egypt on Saturday for his first visit since the election of Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi as Egyptian president.

El-Sisi visited Khartoum briefly in June to discuss mutual development plans, Sudanese ambassador to Cairo Abdel-Mahmoud Abdel-Halim told Al-Ahram Arabic.

Describing the two-day Cairo visit as “historic”, Abdel-Halim said that the two presidents will pick up where they left off, continuing the development discussions as well as discussing war-torn Libya.

Al-Bashir is wanted by the International Criminal Court for war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide. Egypt signed the ICC treaty in 2000 but has not ratified it.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an official invitation to Egypt on 15 October to arrest Al-Bashir if he enters Egypt's territory and to surrender him to the Court.

Egypt’s foreign ministry spokesman Bard Abdel-Atti told Ahram Online that there would be no difficulty for Al-Bashir to enter Egypt because the treaty was not ratified.

Since the issuing of a warrant for his arrest, Al-Bashir has travelled to a number of African and Arab countries.
