Egypt's Defence Minister Sedky Sobhi on Tuesday attended a simulation of a Suez Canal crossing as part of large-scale military exercises taking place this month.
The simulated crossing was executed by the Third Army.
Military engineers connected the western and eastern banks of the canal via movable bridges, allowing vehicles and tanks to cross in a scene reminiscent of an operation on 6 October 1973, which defeated Israel's Barlev defence lines.
Army units on Tuesday used APCs and boats aided by air forces units.
The exercise, dubbed Badr 2014, began on 11 October and will last until 6 November.
It involves a strategic defence operation to repel and defeat enemy forces. Military exercises began in Egypt in October 1980, following the 1978 Camp David Accords.
