Three injured when bomb explodes under a bridge near downtown Cairo

Three people were injured early Saturday when an improvised bomb exploded under Ghamra Bridge near downtown Cairo, a health official told Ahram Online.

No deaths have been reported, according to Ahmad El-Ansary, the head of the health ministry’s ambulance authority.

Street cleaners discovered the bomb during the early hours of Saturday, head of civil protection Sami Youssef told MENA.

El-Ansary told Ahram Online that the three injured people were transported to Al-Sayed Galal hospital in downtown Cairo.

Attacks by jihadist militants have increased since the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July last year, with most of the violence taking place in the Sinai Peninsula. The majority of attacks target security personnel, but there have also been deadly attacks on civilian targets in Cairo and the Nile Delta.
