A reliable Egyptian source has refuted media reports claiming that Egypt has sent a military ‎delegation to oversee the implementation of the newly signed reconciliation agreement ‎between Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas. ‎

‎“It’s too early to talk about sending Egyptian troops or committees to Gaza in order to supervise the ‎unity deal,” the anonymous source told Al-Hayat newspaper. “Several ‎steps must be taken first by both movements.”‎

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas leader Khaled Meshal buried the ‎proverbial hatchet at a ceremony on Wednesday in Cairo, which ended a nearly four-year ‎feud and has notably angered Israel.

When asked about the anticipated meeting between Fatah and Hamas, the source said: ‎‎“Egypt will not interfere unless it was told to. We are here to help and to push things ‎forward.”‎
