A sound bomb detonated on Thursday morning at Ramsis railway station in central Cairo, railway authority spokesman Nagwa Albert told Ahram Online.

Explosives experts arrived at the scene to inspect the device.

Police cordonned off the area to search for other potential bombs.

Albert said the bomb did not cause any damage to property and there were no injuries.

Train operations returned to normal after a brief interruption.

Ramsis station, located in downtown Cairo, is Egypt's main train station connecting the north and the south of the country.

The explosion of sound bombs at transportation hubs around the country has been a recurrent phenomenon in recent months.

Last week, a sound bomb burst at Helmiyat El-Zeitun metro station in east Cairo, setting off a stampede which left 16 people with minor injuries.
