A police conscript died on Friday from injuries sustained amid clashes between security forces and Islamist demonstrators, spokesperson for the health ministry Hossam Abdel-Ghaffar told Ahram Online.
The clashes took place in Ain Shams, an eastern district of Cairo.
At least three other people have died on Friday in related incidents, including two army personnel killed in drive-by shootings in Cairo and in Qalioubiya, and one civilian killed in clashes in Matariya in eastern Cairo.
The ultraconservative group the Salafist Front had called for anti-government protests on Friday in “defence of Egypt’s Islamic identity.” Although supported by the Muslim Brotherhood, the numbers mobilised were low.
At least 20 people were injured in clashes related to the protests, the health ministry has said.
