Two policemen were injured in a shooting at a police checkpoint in Alexandria on Tuesday.
The checkpoint, located in Al-Wardian district in the west of the city, was attacked by unknown assailants. Both injured policemen are now in hospital.
A similar attack took place on Sunday in Al-Arish in the governorate of North Sinai. A checkpoint shooting left one policeman dead and another injured.
Following the ouster of president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013, the number of violent attacks on security forces by militant groups increased dramatically. Attacks are concentrated in the northern part of Sinai, where hundreds of security personnel have been killed, but attacks are also regular occurences in other parts of Egypt.
