Iraq's president Fuad Masum praised Egypt's contributions in fighting the Islamic State, which controls large swaths of the Levant, Egypt's foreign minsitry said in a statement on Wednesday.
Egypt`s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Masum in Baghdad for the first time since the Kurdish politician was elected to office by the parliament in July 2014. Shoukry carried a message from president Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi in which he addressed internal issues in Iraq and the importance of a dialogue that includes all factions.
Egypt backs the US-led military coalition against IS in Syria and Iraq but will not deploy troops to fight the militant group, El-Sisi said last October.
Shoukry and Masum discussed means to develop relations between Egypt and Iraq, the foreign minsitry said.
