Suspected members terror cells arrested in Giza have been referred to court after they admit to carrying out bombings

The Prosecutor General has referred suspected members of "two terrorist cells" arrested in Giza to court.

Mohamed El-Tamaway, the head of urgent matter prosecution in South Giza, told Aswat Masriya that the 21 suspects of the first terrorist cell had confessed to bombing Radobis Cinema theatre in January, which resulted in one death and five injured.

He said the suspects had also admitted to trying to bomb the Belgian ambassador's residence and to targeting a number of police officers at Al-Talabiya police station.

El-Tamaway added that the five suspects of the second terrorist cell admitted they were responsible for bombing the administrative prosecution building in 6 October City in March.

Egypt has seen a wave of bombings and shootings since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.

Egypt has declared a number of groups to be terrorist organisations in the past year, including Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis, the Muslim Brotherhood, from which ousted Mohamed Morsi hails, and Agnad Misr, which has claimed responsibility for a number of terrorist acts, including a bombing near Cairo University, shootings of police officers, and two bombings against police targets in Giza.
