A child was injured after an improvised bomb exploded in Alexandria, Egypt’s second city, on Monday evening, reported local website Aswat Masriya.
Alexandria’s director of security told the website that the bomb went off in front of a bank in Gamal Abdel-Nasser Street in the city’s east, leading to the child’s injury and subsequent hospitalisation.
Attacks on police and army forces have been recurrent in Egypt with hundreds of personnel killed or injured, particularly in North Sinai where the military is battling a jihadist insurgency.
Attacks have also spread to Cairo and other governorates and civilians have been caught up in the violence.
