Prosecutor General Hisham Barakat ordered on Sunday the detention of a low ranking police officer accused of killing a hospitalised terror suspect, Aswat Masriya reported.

The officer will be held for four days pending investigation.

The ministry of interior had said that the officer who was on guard duty shot the injured man after he was "provoked."

"The suspect insulted the police officer, his family, the police force and the armed forces. He also vowed to kill him and disfigure his body... which caused the provocation," the ministry said in a statement.

The suspect was arrested while he was attempting, along with two others, to plant explosives in Al-Waraq district in Giza on 25 January.

He was arrested after he was shot and injured. His partner fled the scene.

The ministry of interior said that the suspect was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, which was officially designated as a terrorist organisation in December 2013.
