The liberal Wafd Party has confirmed it will join the 'For the Love of Egypt' electoral list for parliamentary polls in March.
The higher committee of the party convened before announcing the decision, which party head El-Sayed El-Badawy said would be final upon the approval of other parties on the list.
'For the Love of Egypt' is headed by Sameh Seif El-Yazal, a former intelligence officer and chairman of the Gomhouria Centre for Political and Strategic Studies (GCPSS).
El-Yazal said a few days ahead of the registration date that he and many others were aiming to run on a list of candidates that Mubarak-era prime minister Kamal El-Ganzouri was trying to compile but decided to scrap it in favour of 'For the Love of Egypt'.
According to El-Yazal, "The reason why we decided to abandon El-Ganzouri's list was because his efforts aimed at unifying candidates of secular political parties on a single list ended in failure."
