A conscript died and three other policemen were injured in an attack on a security checkpoint in the Nile Delta on Sunday morning.
The policemen, manning a security checkpoint in the Kafr Al-Gazar area of Qalioubiya, were surprised by the amount of bullets fired by the unknown assailants, local security directorate head Mahmoud Youssry told Aswat Masriya.
Egyptian security forces have been stretched in recent months, confronting a growing wave of militant attacks that have targeted police and army personnel.
Bombings and shootings have become commonplace in the capital and other parts of the country since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.
The bloodiest attacks have occurred in the border Sinai region, with hundreds of police and military personnel killed.
