Two men were killed on Wednesday while reportedly making Molotov cocktails in the Abou Zabal area of greater Cairo, while four others were injured.
Their apartment was set on fire when one of the cocktails exploded, according to Al-Ahram Arabic news website.
The deceased were a 21-year-old commerce student and a 35-year-old sales representative. The landlord was arrested for interrogation.
Egypt has been hit with numerous bomb attacks since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
On a number of occasions bombs have killed or injured the bombers themselves.
