Three policemen were injured late on Wednesday in a minor bombing in Daqahliya, north of Cairo, a local official said, the latest in near daily bombings targeting security forces in Egypt.

Unknown assailants in the Nile Delta city of Mansoura placed a bomb under a police vehicle targeting a police station in the vicinity. The vehicle and another private car were damaged and shop fronts smashed in the blast, provincial security chief Said Shalaby said, as quoted by state news agency MENA.

Another improvised bomb was found meters away from the blast and later defused. In Cairo, a senior security official said a crude bomb near the cabinet building in downtown was also defused late on the day, according to MENA.

Bombings and shootings have become commonplace in the capital and other parts of the country amid an uptick in militant violence since the 2013 ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

The bloodiest attacks have occurred in the border Sinai region, mainly targeting police and military personnel. The violence has killed hundreds in the past 19 months and also led to civilian casualties.

Mansoura, about 120 km (75 miles) northeast of Cairo, was the scene of one of the deadliest attacks when a suicide bombing targeted a police compound building in December 2013,  killing 16 and injuring 140 others.
