Revelation in newspaper interview about Mubarak's wealth leads to the renowned writer being called in for questioning

Egyptian writer and thinker Mohamed Hassanein Heikal was questioned today by the Illicit Gains Authority (IGA) over the wealth of ousted president Hosni Mubarak.

Heikal was called for questioning by Khaled Selim, head of the IGA's investigations department, after the publication of the third instalment of a series of interviews he had given to Al-Ahram newspaper. In the interview, he said that he had read reports by the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the World Bank indicating that Mubarak’s wealth is estimated to be anywhere between $9 and $11 billion.
