A group of assailants armed with firearms attacked a bus belonging to Al-Ahram Foundation in Cairo's 6 October city on Thursday night, injuring six people.

A number of Ahram staff were on board, travelling to printing houses in 6 October city, a satellite development on the outskirts of Cairo.

Three of the six people injured are in critical condition. The assailants reportedly destroyed the bus and escaped.

Egypt has been witnessing regular militant attacks in recent months. The anti-government Islamists allegedly behind the attacks primarily target security forces, as well as infrastructure targets such as the railway network and electricity pylons. Civilians have also been caught up in the violence.

Al-Ahram Foundation is a public company which produces over a dozen publications including Al-Ahram daily newspaper, in print since 1876, and a number of news websites including Ahram Online.
