The chief of staff of the Egyptian army, Mahmoud Hegazy, will lead a military delegation on a trip to the UAE on Sunday to discuss military cooperation with Emirati officials, Egypt’s military spokesperson Mohamed Samir announced.

The visit will last for “several days”, according to Samir.

Hegazy will meet with his Emirati counterpart Hamad Al-Rumaithi and a number of officials to discuss joint military exercises between both countries.

The UAE has been a key backer of President El-Sisi.

During Egypt’s economic conference which took place in Sharm El-Sheikh in March, Mohamed bin Rashed Al-Maktoum, vice president of the UAE and ruler of Dubai, pledged $4 billion to support the country.
