The policeman was wounded as experts were attempting to dismantle the bomb

A policeman was injured in a bomb attack near a court complex in Assiut city in Upper Egypt late Saturday, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The policeman was hit when the bomb detonated while explosive experts were attempting to dismantle it. He reportedly handled the bomb with them.

He was transferred to hospital and an investigation is underway.

Authorities had received a report that a suspicious objected was found near Assiut court complex and the governor’s house.

Earlier on Saturday, three Egyptian judges and their driver were killed when gunmen opened fire on their vehicle in Al-Arish city, North Sinai.

The attack came hours after a Cairo court issued a preliminary death sentence against former president Mohamed Morsi and 105 other defendants on a range of charges, including murder.

Bomb attacks have been recurrent throughout Egypt over the past year and a half, mainly targeting police and army sites and personnel.

However, judges too were hit on several occasions.

In March, a small bomb was left in front of the house of judge Fathi Bayoumi, who investigated the corruption charges against Mubarak-era interior minister Habib El-Adly.
