Egyptian FM Sameh Shoukry on Saturday travelled to Algeria for talks with his Algerian counterpart Ramtane Lamamraand and Algerian Prime Minister Abdelmalek Sellal over the ongoing Libya crisis.
The officials discussed the current situation in Libya, a country with which both Egypt and Algeria share a border, according to a statement from Egypt's foreign ministry.
They “supported a political solution to the current crisis, and agreed to minimize violence and terrorism," Egyptian foreign ministry spokesperson Badr Abdel Ati said in the statement. They agreed to support UN envoy to Libya Bernadino Leon.
The Egyptian minister also invited the Algerian officials to the Syrian opposition conference to take place in Egypt on June 8 and 9.
Following the ouster of long-time dictator MuammarGaddafi, various Libyan militias have been fighting the central government in a civil war that has ravaged the country.
An internationally-recognised parliament currently operates out of the city of Tobruk in the east, while anti-government rebels control the capital Tripoli in the west.
