Three die and two injured when feud between families in Sohag turns violent

A feud between two families in the Upper Egyptian governorate of Sohag has resulted in armed violence that left three dead and two injured.

Police moved to Sohag's Al-Monshaa City late on Saturday to contain a fight between the Al-Shatory and Al-Taweel families.

The fight resulted in the death of three men aged 19, 24 and 45, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

The two injured include a seven-year-old boy who sustained a bullet wound to his chest.

The reason for the fight is still unknown. Security forces are investigating the incident.

The fight also resulted in the torching of two houses.

Family feuds in Upper Egypt are not uncommon.

In April 2014, 25 were killed when a long-running tribal feud in Aswan was rekindled. Egypt's army, along with the country's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, had to intervene to end the fight.
