A policeman was injured on Thursday night when gunmen opened fire at a small police station in a village in the central Fayoum governorate, Al-Ahram's Arabic news website reported.

Hamada Farag was transferred to hospital after the incident in El-Hamouly village.

In April, a policeman was shot dead in the governorate by assailants on motorcycles.

Bomb attacks and shootings directed at the security forces have killed hundreds of police and military personnel since 2013.
