Ismailia’s governorate prosecution ordered on Sunday the detainment of two policemen pending investigation on charges of stealing weapons and cars from police evidence.

Investigations revealed that the head of the investigations unit of the East Qantara police station, along with his deputy, stole some evidence without listing it in their reports.

The stolen evidence includes three unregistered cars, three mechanical rifles, a 9mm machine gun, a birdshot rifle, and 41 bullets, Ahram Arabic website reported.

In May, two police officers were arrested over allegations they set up a fake security roadblock and stole from civilians in New Cairo on the outskirts of the capital.
