President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi joined mourners on Tuesday at the funeral prayers of Egypt’s top prosecutor Hisham Barakat, who was killed in a bomb attack on his motorcade on Monday.
The funeral prayers were held at El-Mosheer Tantawy mosque in New Cairo.
The ceremony, which was attended by top Egyptian officials and minister, witnessed tight security details by army units, as well as helicopters hovering over the area for several hours.
The president and tens of other mourners marched in a short military procession behind army soldiers carrying wreaths to honour Barakat.
El-Sisi had ordered on Monday a military funeral for the late prosecutor.
Barakat, who was 65, died in hospital on Monday after he was seriously injured in the bomb attack in Heliopolis, Cairo.
The late Barakat had served as prosecutor general since July 2013, when he was appointed by interim president Adly Mansour.
