The Ministry of Health in Beni Suef has confirmed the death of Mohamed Seroor, an associate in the Investigations Department, on Thursday after alleged "terrorists" targeted him outside his house.
Seroor was hit by bullets in the neck and chest.
He was transferred to hospital and entered the operation room but died prior treatment, Alaa Ezzat, undersecretary in the health ministry in Beni Suef told Al-Arabic Ahram news website.
Earlier in April, four people were killed in an explosion at a makeshift farm building in Beni Suef governorate in Egypt in what police said was a bomb-making operation gone wrong.
Egypt has seen a wave of bombings and shootings directed at security forces since the ouster of the Muslim Brotherhood’s Mohamed Morsi from the presidency in July 2013.
The deadliest attacks have been centered in the country's restive Sinai Peninsula, where the Egyptian army and police have been battling a militant Islamist insurgency for the past decade.
Attacks in North Sinai are mostly claimed by the Islamic State-affiliated group, Sinai Province (formerly known as Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis).
