A low-ranking police officer was injured after an improvised bomb was detonated in Roxy Square, Heliopolis, in Cairo Thursday afternoon.

The bomb was planted in front of a building in the square.

The injured police officer was transferred to hospital to receive treatment.

In recent months, dozens of small bombs have been planted by Islamist militants, targeting security personnel as well as economic installations such as electricity pylons and mobile phone stores.
