Cairo’s Civil Protection Forces recommended that the burnt El-Fagala Street building off Ramsis square be demolished, after a six-hour blaze on Monday ravaged the structure, Ahram Arabic website reported.

Firefighters managed to cool down the structure on Tuesday.

Investigations are currently underway to determine how the fire began.

A video showing the fire in the building went viral online.

The building is home to five bookshops located on the ground floor.

El-Fagala Street is well known as a commercial centre for bookshops as well as printing factories.
