Cairo Criminal Court announced Saturday that the ministry of interior informed the court it would not be able to secure the trial of two police officers accused of torturing to death a lawyer.
The court said security officials had informed it they are busy preparing for the new Suez Canal inauguration on Thursday.
The judges postponed the trial but no new exact date was set. The trial is set to be held at the Police Academy in north Cairo.
In February 2015, the general prosecution accused two policemen who belong to the National Security Agency of torturing lawyer Karim Hamdy to death while interrogating him in a police station in Cairo's Matariya district.
Hamdy had been questioned by officers over accusations of illegal weapons possession, involvement in anti-government violence, and belonging to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood group.
Matariya, a working-class district in northeast Cairo, had been a regular site for protests by supporters of ousted Islamist president Mohamed Morsi since July 2013.
