The king of Bahrain Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa arrived in Cairo late Wednesday evening to attend the inauguration ceremony of the new Suez Canal, MENA state news agency reported.
The opening ceremony is set to take place on Thursday in Egypt's Ismailia city.
The state news agency also reported that a deputy for the Qatari minister of transportation has arrived to attend the celebrations.
African heads of state from Niger, Congo and Mauritania have also arrived in Egypt to participate in the ceremony.
Other European and Asian heads of state have started to arrive at Cairo International Airport, according to MENA, including the high ranking Russian diplomat Mikhail Novakovich, the Foreign Minister of Malta George Vella and a Romanian delegation.
