National Consensus Conference says remnants of the National Democratic Party are unwelcome in politics

The National Consensus Conference agreed in its third meeting that members of the dismantled National Democratic Party (NDP) must be inhibited from being politically involved or taking up jobs related to public service.

The NDP, formerly headed by ousted president Hosni Mubarak, is accused of deep-rooted corruption over the past three decades.

Since the overthrow of Mubarak on 11 February, all political forces have continued to reject the presence of the former NDP figures on the political scene.

The electoral committee of the National Consensus Conference said former NDP members should neither take part in the parliamentary elections, nor the presidential ones, for at least five years.

It also stressed they cannot participate in local councils elections, establish or join any political parties.
