The North Sinai-based Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis "ABM" militant group claimed responsibility on Wednesday afternoon for the killing of two policemen in Al-Arish city, releasing graphic photographs on their social media account of the murders.

Affiliated with the Syria and Iraq based Islamic State militants, the group also announced that it took the guns off the murdered policemen in Al-Arish city, after they shot them in the back while they were riding bicycles.

The two policemen were killed earlier Wednesday while they were on their way to work at the facilities department, Ahram Arabic website reported, quoting a security source in the interior ministry.

Ansar Beit Al-Maqdis has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks in North Sinai against security personnel and installations.

A decade-long Islamist militant insurgency in the northern part of the peninsula has intensified in the past two years following the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

Islamist militants have killed with hundreds of army and police personnel.

The army has also announced the killing of hundreds of the militants.
